Tennessee Marriage Certificates/Licenses

Tennessee marriage licenses can be obtained via the Sevier County Clerk up to 30 days in advance of your wedding day. However, it is possible to be married the same day your license is issued as there is no waiting periods or blood tests required.

To obtain a marriage license from the Sevier County Clerk, potential couples must meet the following requirements:

  • Both bride and groom are present
  • Both bride and groom are at least 18 years of age (Circumstances where one or both persons are under 18 [minors] may call our office for detailed rules under which marriage is allowed)
  • Both bride and groom have proper identification - driver's license or birth certificate for U.S. citizens; passport for non-U.S. citizens
  • Special requirements for previously married persons: approximate date when the divorce became official, or date of death of former spouse

For Tennessee residents, marriage licenses cost $98.50. You may attend a 4 (four) hour premarital preparation course and present a certificate of completion to waive the $60.00 fee assessed for not taking this course. If either you or your future spouse has a Tennessee driver's license you will be charged $98.50.

For non-Tennessee residents, the marriage license fee is $38.50. We have been fortunate to be categorized in a tourism zone that allows us to offer this special lowered rate.
